Twenty years ago, on June 17, 1997, three courageous women—Deborah Q. Belfatto, Lisa Herschli and Kathy Hubert McKenna—signed the official document that established the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Affiliate and launched our life-saving work in nine North Jersey counties. Since then, we have helped to provide screening/diagnostic services, breast health/breast cancer education, treatment support, and survivorship programs for thousands of underserved women and men in Northern New Jersey.

We have invested more than $25 million in the fight against breast cancer, funding grants to local non-profit community organizations in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren Counties; and directing support to national research programs in pursuit of the causes and cures to eradicate breast cancer forever.

The Komen North Jersey Affiliate is passionately committed to finding the causes of breast cancer and advocating for equal access to quality breast health care, regardless of age, income or race. But there is much more to do. Susan G. Komen has set its sights on a BOLD GOAL—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the US by 2026 by improving access of the underserved to quality and timely cancer care, and enhancing Komen’s research focus on lethal breast cancers
