New Affiliate Partner TAPinto.net is Making a Difference!
October 24, 2014 – Komen North Jersey announced this week that TAPinto.net (formerly TheAlternativePress.com), a network of locally owned and operated hyperlocal news sites, has signed on as a major sponsor of the Affiliate for 2014-2015. As a new Affiliate Partner, TAPinto.net will expand its support of Komen North Jersey beyond the current level it has been providing specifically for Komen North Jersey’s annual Race for the Cure®—and be a resource for the Affiliate on a regular, ongoing basis.
Last month, TAPinto.net (TAP) kicked off their new partnership as the “Official Media Sponsor” of the Affiliate’s September 27, 2014 Pink Tie Party fundraiser, providing continuous online advertising and editorial promotion of the event on multiple town sites, throughout the month of September. The event attracted over 325 people and exceeded all goals. Throughout the coming year, TAP will provide promotional support on a variety of platforms for many other major initiatives including National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
“TAP is excited to be an Affiliate Partner of Susan G. Komen North Jersey,” says Michael Shapiro, TAP’s CEO and Publisher. “In past years, we have been proud to be a Race sponsor and support the important work that Komen does here. Now that we have grown to over 30 franchised sites in New Jersey (with more than 2.5 million unique visitors), it was an easy decision on our part to increase our level of support this year and become an Affiliate Partner. We like to say that we are committed to all things local—not just news. We want to do as much as we can to help Komen North Jersey make more of a difference in people’s lives, right here in our communities.”
TAP was founded in October 2008 by Michael and his wife Lauryn (residents of New Providence, NJ), who sought to provide the people of their town with an all-online, objective, independent, daily local newspaper. Months earlier, Michael and Lauryn learned that their one-year-old son would need open-heart surgery and Michael, a lawyer at a large firm in New York City, decided it was time to work close to home and help the community at the same time. Shortly after the site’s launch, he left his firm to lead TAP full-time. Today, TAP covers over fifty towns in New Jersey (and several in Pennsylvania) and is accredited by the New Jersey Press Association. TAP is also now being franchised to entrepreneurial journalists, public relations professionals, and sales and marketing professionals interested in starting a newspaper in their own town using the TAP site, business model and expertise.
“TAP is a perfect media partner for us,” says Jennifer Griola, Executive Director of Komen North Jersey. “They are hyperlocal, but with a broad reach. They can help us get our message out into the communities we serve in a way that that wouldn’t be possible for us to do on our own. We are deeply grateful for Michael and Lauryn’s generosity. Having them as an Affiliate Partner this year will really help us grow our mission: to increase awareness about breast health and breast cancer, support programs that provide much needed services to those who can’t afford them, and ultimately save many more lives.”
